The Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Council has approved an investment plan to build a bridge crossing Tam Giang Lagoon in the central province’s Phu Vang district, with an estimated cost of over VND1 trillion ($42 million).
Capital will be sourced from the State budget. The project has a total length of 3 km and includes the bridge over Tam Giang Lagoon, spanning 1.4 km, and two approach roads of 1.6 km.
Construction is to start in 2024 and be completed four years later.
The project has a total length of about 3km, including a bridge across Tam Giang lagoon about 1.4km long, 15.5m wide and a road leading to both ends of the bridge about 1.6km long, cross-section 26m. The length of the route starts from the end of Vo Phi Trang street (Phu Da town) and extends to the end of the intersection with National Highway 49B at Km68+450 (Vinh Xuan commune). It is expected that the project will start construction in 2024 from the budget of Thua Thien – Hue province and will be completed in 4 years.
The transportation system connecting Hue city and Phu Da town (Phu Vang district) to coastal communes is currently in two directions, including the direction along provincial road 10D – provincial road 18 (through Truong Ha bridge) and the direction along Provincial Road 10A – National Highway 49A (through Thuan An bridge). Current traffic routes are on old, narrow roads, passing through densely populated areas, making it difficult for people to travel.
The current traffic connection between the East and West banks of Tam Giang lagoon in Phu Vang district is not favorable and currently the only direction of travel is through Truong Ha bridge, affecting socio-economic development in the area.
Therefore, the implementation of the bridge project across Tam Giang lagoon will contribute to improving the transportation system in the coastal area of Thua Thien – Hue province, shortening the travel time of people in coastal communes with the central region. will especially open up new development space, promoting the development of marine and lagoon tourism in the province.

This project was approved by the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue province with a total investment of more than 2,281 billion VND in the completion phase. Phase 1 of the project is to build an overpass across the Huong River, with a total investment of more than 1,855 billion VND (800 billion VND comes from the central budget, the rest is from the local budget).
The bridge over the Huong River is a steel arch bridge with 5 spans, 380 meters long, 43 meters wide, 6 car lanes 3.5 meters wide, 2 motorbike lanes 3.5 meters wide and safety strips in each direction. run. The bridge has a 3-meter wide walking lane arranged at different levels on both sides. The bridge has a permanent design, vehicle speed is 60km/h and construction time is 3 years. This is the 5th bridge in Hue city spanning the Perfume River.
According to the design of the bridge over the Perfume River this time, it was selected through many auditions, with a unique architectural idea in the form of an arch symbolizing “Croc flanking Thien Mu”, carrying a message about the longevity of the ancient capital. sacred. After completing the bridge construction, the People’s Committee of Thua Thien – Hue province will continue to implement phase 2 of the project, which is to build and embellish Nguyen Hoang street with a length of more than 1km.
Once completed, the project will contribute to improving the traffic network, preventing congestion and reducing traffic flow for National Highway 1A and routes through Hue city center; create motivation, form and develop satellite towns and new urban areas west of Hue city; socio-economic development, service tourism and improving and enhancing people’s lives.
