Hue City is studying the possibility of building an overpass at the intersection of National Highway 1 and Nguyen Van Linh Street

Posted on 10 May, 2026

Hue City has proposed building an overpass over the North-South railway line at its northern gateway to reduce traffic congestion, while also increasing investment in Ring Road 3 to over 1,600 billion VND.

To minimize traffic congestion and accidents at the northern gateway to the inner city, the Hue City Investment and Construction Project Management Board has submitted a plan to adjust the Ring Road 3 project. A key highlight of this proposal is the construction of an overpass at the intersection of National Highway 1 and Nguyen Van Linh Street in Huong An Ward, Hue City.

Technical details of the railway and National Highway 1 overpass.
Instead of using a level crossing, which poses many risks, Hue City plans to build a flyover. This project will cross both National Highway 1 and the existing North-South railway line.

According to the revised feasibility study report, the railway overpass has the following main technical specifications:

  • Structure: Consists of 8 Super T girder spans.
  • Length: Over 292 meters.
  • Width: 17.5 m, with 4 lanes for motor vehicles.
  • Additional features: A nearly 59-meter-long steel pedestrian bridge crossing the railway and highway, along with a system of access roads providing flexible connections to the overpass.

Investment capital for Ring Road 3 adjusted to 1,600 billion VND

The Ring Road 3 project has a total length of approximately 6.5 km, playing a vital role in connecting National Highway 1 with National Highway 49A. The road is planned with a width ranging from 36 m to 43 m depending on the specific segment.

Along with the addition of the overpass, the total investment for the Ring Road 3 project has been proposed to be significantly increased from 750 billion VND to over 1,600 billion VND. Of this, construction costs alone account for more than 1,100 billion VND. In addition, the project also includes a resettlement area of nearly 5 hectares in Thuy Xuan ward, Hue City, with 234 land plots to facilitate land clearance.

Overview of the Hue City Ring Road 3 Project:

Category Detailed specifications
Length of the route 6.5 km
Planned road width 36 m – 43 m
Total new investment Over 1.6 trillion VND
Key projects Railway overpass at the Nguyen Van Linh intersection
Resettlement area Thuy Xuan Ward (5 hectares, 234 plots)

Currently, several railway overpasses are operating effectively in Hue City, such as the Thuy Duong overpass (Thanh Thuy ward), the Phu Bai overpass (Phu Bai ward), the Phong An overpass (Phong Thai ward), and the overpass north of the Hai Van tunnel (Chan May commune – Lang Co). The addition of an overpass in Huong An ward is expected to complete the infrastructure network, expand urban space, and alleviate the immense traffic pressure in the inner city of Hue.

Note: Project information may change depending on official approval decisions and planning adjustments by competent authorities.
